THE MISSION
The Computerworld Honors brings together the Chairmen or Chief Executive Officers of the worlds foremost information technology companies with the world's leading universities, libraries and research institutions to document a revolution in progress: the global information technology revolution.
Established in 1988, the Honors Program is dedicated to identifying the men and women, organizations and institutions, that are leading this revolution and to recording the impact of their achievements on society.
Primary source materials, such as case studies, oral histories, conference proceedings, publications, video tapes, and other records generated by this on-going Search for New Heroes are preserved, protected, and made available to both scholars and the general public, on line but also through a program of source and license donations to affiliated universities, libraries, and research institutions around the world.
Over the course of each year, members of the Chairmens Committee identify those organizations whose use of information technology has been especially noteworthy for the originality of its conception, the breadth of its vision, and the significance of its benefit to society. These organizations are asked to contribute a case study to the Collection. Formal Medal Presentations mark the donation of these case-studies.
From the Laureates in each of 10 categories, a distinguished panel of judges selects five to become Worldwide Finalists. In June, in Washington, D.C., the Program honors these Finalists. At that time, the Chairmens Committee presents ten 21st-Century Achievement Awards to the organizations selected by the judges as first among their peers.
In addition to recognizing the efforts of outstanding organizations the Computerworld Honors Program also presents a series of Leadership Awards, each designed to honor the extraordinary achievements of individuals whose positive contributions to the information technology revolution have left an indelible mark on the world.
